Adam Gaudette - will he ever play in Vancouver?

Boston.

The curse of Boston for the Vancouver Canucks.
The Chairman of the Board Jeremy Jacobs conspiracy theories swirl around Vancouver like a bad mist in March.'
The 2011 defeat.

Can you add Adam Gaudette to the list?

The Vancouver Canucks 5th round draft pick Gaudette had a breakout year, his second year, last year at the NCAA Northeastern University.

He scored 26 goals and 52 points in just 37 games.

Gaudette is from Braintree just south of Boston, thus Northeastern University.

The 2017/18 season is Gaudette's third year which he committed to playing rather than sign with the Vancouver Canucks.

And next year will be his third year.

So what's stopping him from finishing his career at NCAA, getting his degree, and signing in August 2019 with the hometown Boston Bruins?

Absolutely nothing. Zippity doo da.

In fact, it makes perfect sense for Gaudette to finish his degree and sign with a superior product, the Boston Bruins, who are loaded with young talent, and made the playoffs in 2017.

Compare that to the Canucks who are rock bottom in the NHL.
AND they have a rookie coach.
AND they're going to have chaos.
AND they're going to miss the playoffs... again.

Why in the hell would Gaudette sign with Vancouver?

In Boston Gaudette would get veteran help and a good young team ready to take a run at a Stanley Cup.

In Vancouver... oh boy.

What a mess.

Why would you?

It's a train wreck let's face it.

Gaudette has to look at this from his career point of view. What's best for him.
He can't look at it from Vancouver Canucks fans / media point of view.

What does Vancouver have to offer?

Who's he going to play with? They'll have Bo Horvat and Gagner and Sutter still under contract next year. And they've pinned their hopes on the 150 pound Elias Petterrson.

Oh boy.

Not everyone is a Brock Boeser, an American product who came to Canada.

Gaudette may not want to wear anything but the Stars and Stripes.

And let's face it - the Canucks are on a downward run.

It could be another decade before they pull out of this tailspin, if at all.

Russian defenseman star Nikita Tryamkin took one look at the Canucks and bolted for Russia.

So what is the appeal for Gaudette coming to Vancouver and getting beat like a drum?

None.

And so, unfortunately, it's highly likely Gaudette is Boston bound.

In May of 2018 Canucks fans will know if Gaudette is headed to Vancouver. If he says he's head back to university - Vancouver will have no choice but to trade his rights to salvage something from another draft pick who said ... uh, no. No thanks.

In August, 2019 he's a free agent, free to sign with anyone, such as Boston.

And he'll have his degree and maybe a Hobey Baker Award and maybe a NCAA Championship.

It's the right play for Gaudette.
