Big man's game. No question about it.

As we look at the Winnipeg Jets go 8-1-3 in their last 12 games we can see that size matters.

For some crazy reason media in Vancouver and the Canucks drafting have gone contrary to common sense believing there was this bizarre "age of the small man" in the NHL dawning.

Small men could thrive and survive in this game!

Uhh... Not so much.

Tampa - Hedman, huge team.
St. Louis - Loaded for bear.
Los Angeles - Yikes !
New Jersey - Bringing the heat.
Vegas - Big team, big D
Winnipeg - Giant team
Columbus - Surfs beware !

Need more convincing?

NHL league leaders

Not petite players.
Goals are scored by power players.
To the net with authority - speed, strength - and people who play it that way. Tip Toe through the Daisies - doesn't exist anymore. Power rules.
It's all Stamkos right now. Ovechkin. Tavares.
Size matters.
Even Kucherov goes to the net with authority.

There's no Gudreau.
No Mitch Marner.
No anybody under 200 pounds.

She's a big man's game.

It's baffling to me why the Vancouver Canucks get caught up in this "speed game" every 20 years or so. They somehow get convinced that the game is changing! Small teams are winning!

No they're not.
Evegni Malkin is a giant.
Crosby is 210 pounds.

Where did this baffling idea come from?

One can only imagine the idiots on TSN1040 were watching the idiots on TV promoting the shit out of the Toronto Maple Leafs and thinking "Oh My God! Look at Mitch Marner!!"

It was the usual gang - Province's Jason Botchford, TSN's Blake Price - all jumping the gun - running to conclusions!

It's the age of Twitter don't you know?
The latest thing is the greatest thing.

Automatically.

There's no common sense put into these things. It's just jump on the latest bandwagon.

Mitch Marner by the way is a colossal bust. He has 1 goal and is -8.
Marner last year in the playoffs was a farce.
And he had a whopping 19 goals.

Johnny Gudreau in Calgary has a whopping 3 goals. Sam Bennett HE'S ONLY 18!! has 0 goals and is a draft bust - CERTIFIED.
Even the mighty McDavid - no giant - has 4 goals, this despite the TSN1040's Kurtenlaughs hailing him as the greatest player to have ever played in the NHL.

In 1994 the Canucks were one of the largest teams in the NHL. Bure was tiny on that team. And they bullied and beat their way to the Finals.
Then Canucks GM Pat Quinn was told the NHL was going to a speed game.
They were going to fight the TRAP!

Oh boy, did that ever turn out to be true. NOT.

The Canucks drafting of little Elias Pettersson and Olli Juolevi is yet another example of a Canucks team buying the media and league hype.

They have very little chance to have impact in the NHL.

And then when the Canucks lose - it's because they don't have any size on the blueline. They went small and they pay for it when any team decides to just bullrush them to the net. Hutton, Tanev, Del Zotto - and even Edler plays small, Stecher, Biega... Gudbrannson is an island to himself out there.

I've picked Columbus Blue Jackets as Stanley Cup Winners.
But it could easily be Los Angeles, St. Louis or the Winnipeg Jets.

The "speed" game of little guys (that never existed) is gone.

The truth is Willem Nylander and Mitch Marner wouldn't be in the NHL were it not for the size of Auston Matthews to carry them.

Matthews is a big kid, and is going to get bigger.

But instead of realizing there was only Matthews in Toronto the media and Canucks scouting staff appeared to see only Marner and Nylander.
