Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann were fine, the coach wasn't

Remember when Willy Desjarden said Tryamkin wasn't ready for the NHL?
Well, now we'll see how ready the Canucks are for the NHL without him.

Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann and Nikita Tryamkin were 100% NHL ready.

The coach wasn't.

Virtanen and McCann were fine. But Willy Desjarden started to lose - and what do you do when you start to lose? You cut the kids.

And that's what Virtanen and McCann received. Wasn't the coach's fault. Wasn't the GMs fault. It was the kids, right?

They were fine.

They could 100% play.

In fact Virtanen and McCann showed the jam 2 years ago that the team is still missing.

How freaking good was that? Polak had been running the team all night.
Virtanen says, enough of that shit.

Remember this ?

If they had Virtanen riding shotgun with the Sedins - that shit doesn't happen.

But nope, they put Virtanen in Utica because he "wasn't ready for a job".

Oh I see. So who was ready for the job to stop that from happening?

The problem is you get a coach like Desjarden or Travis Green trying to save their jobs, and there's no direction from ownership to play the kids, and they'll jettison those kids at the first opportunity.

Revisionist history.

Remember they had a lot of kids with Virtanen start at the same time.

And they lost because the Sedins lost 2 steps. And the D got blown up. And they got injured.

You think that happens with Virtanen patrolling the ice 20 minutes per game?

Hell no.

But for some reason Willy and management couldn't make the connection between being pussies on the ice and this happening to them.

Remember this guy?

All kinds of jam. All kinds. Nope, can't have that guy on the team.

Wasn't ready for the NHL my ass.
Remember this guy fought anyone too. Defended his team. Jam. Guts. Balls.
A young Doug Gilmour.

And then they fired Desjarden after he ran Virtanen and McCann.

To develop at the NHL - you have to play in the NHL.

Playing in the AHL helps no one.

Nobody gets better in the AHL.

McCann and Virtanen should be headed into their 3rd year right now.

Ready to take over games.

But this franchise just can't do it right. It just can't. It's committed to the AHL model which doesn't work at all.

How's that working for Detroit without Lidstrom?
That's right, it's not.

How's that working for Chicago with Duncan Keith on the backend of the career?
That's right, it's not.

How's that working for Tampa Bay Lightning without Steven Stamkos?
That's right, it's not.

You don't "earn" jobs on a last place team.

The old farts have proven they can't win.

Move them aside. It's over.

Kids up front. Boeser, Goldoben, Dahlen, Joulevi, Virtanen -- they all have to play meaningful minutes.

Kids wearing the letters.

Be ruthless.

Gotta be winners at the management level first. And if they don't have the jam to let the kids take the wheel then it's going to be a long, long rebuild.

It's been 50 years, what the hell is another 50 years?
