Sedins. NO! NOOOOOOOOOOO! no.
The Sedins have been terrific.
But NO. Hard NO to re-signing the Sedins.
Addition by Subtraction - following the Colorado model. Get better by deleting time gobblers.
Could they help next year? Yes. Absolutely. But help what? That's the big question.
What's the purpose of tying up ice time in two old guys who at best can help the team get to 28th place in the NHL standings?
At some point you have to turn the page and move on.
Take the Colorado Avalanche for example. They have 2 players over 30. Carl Soderberg is 32 and Blake Comeau is 31. They've turned the page on old farts and disgruntled players and have moved forward in their rebuild.
You're not getting anywhere with the Sedins tying up ice time.
They're incredibly slow hockey players.
It isn't about the cap space.
The Canucks don't have anyone to buy on Free Agency day. No one is available for them. And they have no Restricted Free Agents tying up the bank either.
No they're fine with money. It's about ice time. The crop of young players such as they are must play. Ready or not Jake Virtanen must play 18-19 minutes per night. Period.
Jake's gotta play. He's 21 and not getting younger. And the Canucks have to get going in the right direction here. Bringing back the Sedins gives the coach "reliable veterans" to put on the ice instead of developing kids. That has to stop.
Time has moved on here. In fact the Canucks have to jettison anyone over the age of 30 including Edler including Erikkson. You're not going anywhere with veterans so what the hell are you doing?
If you're trying to teach kids "the right way" to play the game - how is 29th place year after year working for you? Here's how you play right into the toilet.
No. I'm sorry but you can't get any worse than you are right now playing an entire roster of pure rookies. Think about it. They can't possibly get worse than they are right now.
They can't score.
They can't defend. They are -13. They get tied up in their own zones for hours.
They can't win at home.
How are the Sedins helping?
And furthermore how are the Sedins still wearing letters?
I agree they've been terrific players for the franchise.
1. Bure
2. Kesler
3. Bertuzzi
4. Henrik Sedin
5. Daniel Sedin
Top 5 players in franchise history.
But they didn't get it done in the playoffs. And that's just a fact.
So it's time to move on and let the franchise develop kids.
They need to get faster, meaner, tougher, bigger, stronger at every position. The Sedins don't bring any of that. They're terribly slow. They bring 50 points each to the table, sure, but at what expense?
Is that points taken from Reid Boucher? They have to move on. Period.
No more "rebuild on the fly" and do a full rebuild.
